What’s Included in Pediatric Eye Care?

Age-Appropriate Visual Acuity Test (Snellen, HOTV, or Lea Symbols) – Measure how clearly your child sees at distance and near using charts or games suited to their age.

Cycloplegic Refraction (when needed) – Use gentle eye drops to temporarily relax the focusing muscle, ensuring an accurate glasses prescription for younger children.

Ocular Alignment & Motility Evaluation – Check for crossed eyes (strabismus), tracking problems, or muscle imbalances that can affect proper eye teamwork.

Stereopsis (Depth Perception) Screening – Assess binocular vision to ensure both eyes work together for accurate depth perception and prevent amblyopia (lazy eye).

Colour Vision Screening – Identify color-vision deficiencies early, so your child has the support they need with schoolwork and daily activities.

Slit Lamp Examination – Inspect the front structures of the eye—lids, lashes, cornea, and lens—using a child-friendly microscope to detect any surface or structural issues.

Retinal & Optic Nerve Check (Fundus Examination) – With a dilated exam, view the back of the eye to rule out conditions like retinal abnormalities or optic-nerve concerns, especially in children with a family history of eye disease.

All tests are performed using child-friendly NIDEK & Zeiss-class equipment by our trained pediatric ophthalmic technicians and reviewed by our in-house pediatric eye consultants to ensure your child receives accurate, comfortable care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Children should ideally have their first comprehensive eye check by age 3–4 years, or earlier if there are concerns such as crossed eyes, excessive tearing, or a family history of eye problems.

If no issues are found, routine exams every 1–2 years are recommended. If your child already wears glasses or has an identified eye condition, an annual check-up helps monitor progress and ensure proper development.

Watch for frequent eye rubbing, squinting, tilting the head to see better, holding books very close, or complaining of headaches. Also, if your child struggles in school or avoids activities like reading, book an exam right away.

We check how well each eye sees (with letters, pictures, or age-appropriate games), assess eye alignment and focusing ability, and examine the retina and optic nerve using non-invasive tools. For very young children, we use child-friendly methods to ensure they stay comfortable.
